This Sunday, I’ll be playing a concert with the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble. This will be the first of three Winnipeg Wind Ensemble concerts this year – I’ll be playing in all of them. Some of the players are colleagues I know from my Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra days and I’ve played with them for many years. Plus a number of the group players are university and public school teachers who want to keep their playing skills up in spite of their heaving teaching schedules. Jackie Dawson is the Music Director.
The programme is very eclectic – there will be something for everyone! It’s called “Bach and Beyond”. We’ll be playing “The Sword and Crown” by Edward Gregson, “Strange Humors” by John Mackay, “O Magnum Misterium” by Morten Lauridsen, “Clarinet Concerto” by Artie Shaw, and the “Toccata and Fugue in D minor (arranged by Huntsberger) by J. S. Bach. Naoum Gomon will be the soloist on the Artie Shaw “Clarinet Concerto”.
Everyone is welcome, so please come out and hear us!
